Venice Beach will always be a haven for metalheads, punks, skaters, surfers, and renegades of all kinds. OTTTO definitely ride this wave down their own lane. The Venice-based trio—Bryan Noah Ferretti [vocals, guitar], Tye Trujillo [bass], and Patrick “Triko” Chavez [drums]—meet at the collision of thrash and punk with a twist of funk grooves. After receiving early acclaim from Guitar World, Loudwire, Consequence of Sound, and more, the three-piece ignite this sharp signature style on their forthcoming 2022 full-length debut underlined by a whole lot of westside spirit.
“Our sound is a bunch of elements mixed together,” exclaims Tye. “We love surfing and skating, and it definitely inspires our music. There’s a similar energy. We make heavy groove driven music with little elements of punk and thrash.”
Tye and Bryan initially linked up through a mutual friend in 2015. Inspired by everyone from Slayer, Suicidal Tendencies, Metallica, and Bad Brains to Red Hot Chili Peppers, Jane’s Addiction, Torche, and Alice In Chains, they logged countless hours jamming together. The group made waves with their self-titled debut during 2020, posting up over 100K streams independently. The 2021 single “Ride Low” arrived to critical acclaim. Right out of the gate, Guitar World hailed it as “thundering.” Meanwhile, they delivered showstopping performances everywhere from Lollapalooza and Bottle Rock to packed house parties in East L.A.
Linking up with Triko, the lineup cemented with these three distinct personalities defining the sound.
“The name OTTTO has three t’s, and there are three of us,” Tye goes on. “We all bring cool energy to the band. Bryan’s vocals and harmonies are melodic. Triko draws the riffs into the pocket. Everybody adds something unique to the OTTTO sound.”
At the same time, the sound nods to Triko and Tye’s Latin heritage, giving it a new flare.
“We love listening to Latin music and funky jams,” Tye affirms. “It motivates us to go even harder. We definitely apply those elements to our music too.”
They reflect all of these sides in their next body of work. With production and engineering from Tim Harkins, the LP captures the uncontainable and undeniable energy of these three musicians face-to-face.
In the end, OTTTO puts their own stamp on a tried-and-true Venice tradition.
“When you listen to us, I hope we possibly inspire you to go out and do whatever you love,” he leaves off. “If you want to skate, you can put on OTTTO and listen. If you want to hit the gym, play OTTTO. Some songs will pump you up. Other songs will calm you down. The ultimate goal is to always have a positive impact and effect. It’s what music has given us.”
